Second draft of something written in Peru:

At Pisac

The mountains
are only mountains
and the bands of wall
that seem to slice the hillside
into ribbons, flaying it, fanning it
out as if presenting it to be eaten,
are only walls.

or

The mountains are only mountains and
The narrow bands of wall
that seem to flay the hillside,
slice it into ribbons and
present it to be eaten,
are only walls.

I like the former version for its visual appeal, and the latter for its rhythm.
